About Us

Bowhill Stables is close to all of the major Border towns of Selkirk, Galashiels, Melrose and Hawick. It has all of the facilities required for an excellent livery and training yard.

The stables sit within the old walled gardens of Bowhill House and Country Estate with 20 stables, a full size floodlit outdoor arena and plenty of good sheltered grazing.

Set in beautiful woodland and moorland the estate covers more than 46,000 acres of Scottish Borders and provides some of the finest riding country in Britain. The scenery is breathtaking in all seasons and access in parts of this sparsely populated area is only possible on foot or horseback. Paths and tracks of varying length provide riders of all abilities an opportunity to discover the beautiful woodlands, rugged rivers, lochs and spectacular high moors that are only a short ride away.

Kim Peters – Yard Owner and Principal Trainer

"I started riding as a young child, finally owing my own horse when I was about 18...I cannot  apologise enough to that poor horse and to a fair few that followed!. When I bought my old mare Xena 20 years ago she was a lot of horse and it became apparent very quickly that although I was pretty brave... or pretty stupid however you want to look at it, I discovered I did not actually know much. It was then that the learning curve began in earnest.

I have worked with several trainers but my main influence has been Marji Armstrong, who finally taught me how to really ride a horse and the journey continues to this day.
